Enchanted Forest

Of course this is not a forest at all. It is, rather, a hardy ornamental kale struggling to embrace the sunshine and endure through cold winter days. Although this week has been relatively mild, last week's temperatures in the Northeast USA were formidable!

When I saw this kale bursting with life, exploding its violet tones into the afternoon light, I had to look at it close up. That's when I saw magic in it, and had to shoot it on my way to the car, even though we were pressed for time and on our way to visit my mother-in-law.

Looking at this image in Photoshop later on, I saw a bizarre yet beautiful landscape there, a full forest of exotic foliage in alluring tones of green, auburn and violet. So I HAD to work on it and post it, to share it with you.

I haven't been making the rounds these past few days, but I hope to do that tomorrow. I hope everyone is having a happy and creative weekend!

  3. A stunning kale photo, Lynda. We have kale too and one frosty morning it looked like a frozen mythical monster, all drooping and beastly, but it bounced back and then we dried most of it. It's delish crinkled on hot noodle dishes. :D

    Hugs, JJ

  6. Hi Lynda, great shot - and I wonder how come we don't have anything here like that - I think next year I will have to go through farmers fields to capture something like that. So you like me with the camera, but I think the best shots are when unexpected comes along. Hope you are having good Sunday, what's left, and will see you next week. Thanks for sharing so promptly. Anna :)

  8. Beautiful. Makes me think of the ocean: coral and those living sea animals that look like seaweed.

  12. JJ, you mean you can eat ornamental kale? It amazes me, how many varieties there seem to be.

I glad your kale bounced back and you were able to dry it. They ARE hardy, and I can't believe that after some of the cold weather here, they're not all shriveled!

  14. Kim, MY cars don't look brand new, lol! I'm sure we have the oldest dinosaurs on the block. But I'd rather spend my money on canvases and paint!

  15. Anna, I wish I could carry my camera every moment of my life. But it's not to be, and I've missed SO many good opportunities!

I'm learning to carry it on all my walks, at least. Last spring and summer I feasted on images of everyday things around my neighborhood, including lots of garden shots. And carrying my point-and-shoot, made it a memorable season!

I guess we're lucky that shooting images brings us such excitement! :)
