Ethereal

"Ethereal" Image c Lynda Lehmann

Petals clasp sweet sunlit air.

Roots reach deep to suckle Grace.

Graceful tulip drinks her love, grateful for

dear Earth's embrace.

Poem c 2008 Lynda Lehmann

Serendipity was finding this majestic tulip in my garden, upon returning home from a walk. I ran to get my camera and caught it just a minute before shade enveloped it, swallowing all the gorgeous highlights. Only a day later, this beautiful bloom was past its glory. But what a glorious flower it was! The photo is from last year, but since we're not having much in the way of blooming here yet, except for crocuses and hyacinths, I'm posting it to celebrate spring. It's the perfect time to find renewal in both nature and in ourselves. I hope you enjoy my photo and poem and I wish you a happy, healthy, and creative spring!

Text and photo c Lynda Lehmann. "Ethereal" is available for purchase at Lynda Lehmann Painting and Photography or you can buy it framed at Imagekind.

  2. A divine photograph Lynda. What a gorgeous double tulip. This shot reminds me of a Georgia O'Keeffe painting. Excellently portrayed in words too.

  9. I've been caught out a time or two, when I thought I would go back later only for the image you first saw not to be there.
I like the changes you have made to your header.

  10. Lynda:

Really a beautiful flower and poem. It's amazing how you just happen to catch it at the exact time it was so beautiful. In all things, beauty is only temporary. I am also very impressed by how you managed to get the jet black background that outlines the petals so clearly. Very professional.

    Haver a nice day.

  13. Very lovely! Nothing I've ever planted here has grown. Our ligustrums have survived, but I wouldn't say they're thriving. Fortunately we're surrounded by the woods & all of the flowers of the underbrush.

  23. Hey Lynda,

Congratulations for the new header: it is absolutely gorgeous!!! I loved it :D!

About this fantastic poem: it raised such wonderful sensations in me! It made me think that when we are in love we are like a "Graceful tulip" that "drinks her love"! It is a wonderful feeling :)!
You write beautifully, my friend *bowing*!

Indeed, this was the perfect form to celebrate Spring time :D! Thank God it is here (finally) :D!
I wish you a happy, spiritual and full of good vibrations Spring *happy face*!

By the way, have you released any of those chapters we spoke of?

    Cheers

  24. Swubird, I forgot to mention that the flower was surrounded by an unwelcome welter of ugly weeds. So much for how well I keep up with the gardening, of late! I used the extract filter in Photoshop to lift the tulip right out of the "mess," and placed it on a black background.

What's a little weird is that I never planted that double tulip--dont' know where it came from--so I'll consider it a gift of Providence!

  25. Lisa, I'm glad I've discovered your blog, as well! You do beautiful work!

Lana, if nothing grows for you, then you're a lot like me! lol..
Maybe we are being signaled to love things just as they are! :) (I AM good at growing houseplants!)

Merging Point, "embrace in gratefulness" is what I do every day. Thank you for your comments. You have such a way of zooming to the meaning of a post!

  26. Jon, nice to see you, and thank YOU for the link, as well! I'll be over to visit soon...

Ellen, sorry to hear you've met up with some tough times. If you want an ear, you know where to find me... "Delicate, beautiful, powerful and fragile at the same time." I agree with your statement, regarding so many works of art. I think of a Beethoven symphony that is so powerful and strong, yet piques on our most tender emotions! Thanks for coming by. I missed you. :)

  30. Max, hello!

It's good to see you, my friend.

"I wish you a happy, spiritual and full of good vibrations Spring"

I wish the same for you, Max, and let's throw in "healthy" and "creative," to go with the list.

I'm happy that you like my banner and find meaning in my words. As I've told you, I've written a fair amount of fiction and did take a couple of courses on it, but I haven't studied poetry since high school. So if my little poems have any semblance to effective imagery or poetic form, I'm more than gratified.

As for posting some chapters, I'm thinking about how to retrieve my MSS from floppy disk to get them into this computer, which doesn't have a floppy drive! Maybe I can transfer files from floppy into my laptop this summer (which is when I use the laptop) onto CD, and then onto my desktop hard disk. It's to be seen, just another challenge! Thanks for asking. :)

  31. Hello Lynda!

"It's good to see you, my friend." - :D same here!

"I wish the same for you, Max, and let's throw in "healthy" and "creative," to go with the list." - absolutely, darling :D!

"As I've told you, I've written a fair amount of fiction and did take a couple of courses on it, but I haven't studied poetry since high school. So if my little poems have any semblance to effective imagery or poetic form, I'm more than gratified." - I have studied poetry in High School (and outside of it) and I can tell you that your contemporary free-style poetry is beautiful. Your style reminds me of Fernando Pessoa, who obeyed to no literary school and yet wrote amazing poems, just amazing!! He had a very interesting (and often mystic) view of the world and life (by consequence)!

I recently had to chase a computer that had floppy disk to retrieve a novel (not mine) from a disk...boy, I sweated before I could find one lol, but I did and then sent it to my email and then from the email it went to my laptop, then CD! Don't mention it, I asked cause I am really interested in reading them :)!

  32. Max, coming from a person of your intellect, imagination, and discernment, I am THRILLED to be told that you think my little poems are effective/have some worth. I respect your opinion, so now I must take a *bow.* :)

As for the writing being lost to past technologies, I guess I should retrieve all my novels and stories and get them onto CD, before it's too late. Thanks for your encouragement. I'm glad you had success with YOUR manuscript rescue!

    xxxxxx
