"Night Lanterns" - A Creative Interpretation at Simply Heather Blog

Heather over at Simply Heather just posted her interpretation of one of my digital images. Some of you may remember "Night Lanterns" from a recent post.

I think Heather's interpretation is quite creative, as well as interesting and inspirational. Here's her post, if you'd like to go over to read it: Artwork by Lynda Lehmann and My Thoughts

As I told Heather in the comment I left on her blog:

"Your interpretation is incredible and I can be drawn deeply into your line of thought, even though I myself saw this image in a more generalized way, as perhaps the balance or tension between darkness and light... or as maybe a signpost or light to a more spiritual realm. Although I did not think too much about the feminine form per se, I did see the "Queen of Hearts" in it! lol...

YOU see all that you see because of your own spirituality; beauty, wisdom, spirituality, etc., are in the eyes and mind of the beholder.I'm honored that you took the time to talk about one of my images, and I'm glad it inspired you to write about it. Thanks for sharing this with your readers and me! It always amazes me how many interpretations a single abstract piece of art can bring out. Though we share so many universals in our human experience, we're all unique, as well!"

Thank you again, Heather, for sharing your creativity, intellect and spirituality with us! I'm pleased to know that you found food for thought in one of my images.

All images and text c Lynda Lehmann. If you would like to view more of my art or make a purchase, please visit Lynda Lehmann Painting and Photography or my gallery at Imagekind, where you can choose from several sizes and paper types or buy my prints plain or matted and framed.

  1. Thank you, Lynda...for all that you've said and for this post. I have to share that later on today, I showed this picture to my three year old son and asked him what he saw. You won't believe it, but he said "it looks like you mommy".

He hadn't heard me describe it at all...everything that I've shared was only on my blog post. Isn't that something? I think my little man knows his mommy pretty well :o).

My friend stopped in to see me today and I shared it with her; asking her what she saw before I offered my insight. She saw an Angel.

It's very exciting to see the different views, the inspirational thoughts that others see. My description is definately who I am :o).

It is an absolute HONOR to have done this, to share with you the beauty of the creative heart.

Most definately, our relationship will flourish as we share our thoughts together in the future.

Thank you, Lynda and may your heart be blessed in everything you put your hands to ♥.

    ~Heather

  2. The vibrant color and transparent layers in the graphic invite readers to explore layers of their inner selves. Each instance you enter the image with your senses, you can find yourself in a different place; mental, emotional, spiritual or other, engaging in a process of division, further fragementation and eventually, moving back toward wholeness. To realize you have the power to put the pieces of your own puzzle together is very meaningful.

  3. Lynda, Heather did amazing job describing your art work. It opens my eyes, and now I may even see more in your art myself. Excellent! Anna :)

  4. Very interesting. Now that it's pointed out, I can see that, too...

  7. Hey Lynda, I think everything you have here flows nicely. I think if you experiment with other violet hues, they still will look good too. It is your header image that connects all.

Lynda I cannot comment too too much on the colors too, because my monitor is probably different then yours, and then many other bloggers have other monitors, so we all see something different. On the end you should be your own judge, and what you really like.

I think your layout is great.

    Anna :)

  9. Hi! Your creative juices certainly flow into your unique and awe-inspiring images. It is certainly a plus to see people like Heather, who like me, take great pleasure in coming here.

  10. Hey Lynda,

It is just wonderful that Heather would interpret your art and write about it (gosh...this reminded me of the good old days in school, where we used to do the same thing)!

I agree with Heather, "Night Lanterns" does have a very feminine shape (and if we look closer to its centre we do perceive something like women's "recondite spot" [that's what I call it]).
About the "Queen of Hearts"...why, Lynda...do you take interest in Tarot cards? :)

And I agree with you: it is amazing what one same painting transmits to several people (different perceptions, feelings, emotions).

Lynda, it must be sublime to see your work being honoured in such fashion: congratulations, my dear friend :D!

    Cheers

  11. HEATHER - I think your son must be a very intuitive little boy! Thank you again for sharing your thoughts in our little part of cyberspace. I enjoyed your interpretation, and again, I'm honored that you wanted to do it!

Sorry I'm late in responding. Another crazy week and I can't keep my priorities straight! :)

  12. LIARA - What a wonderful and insightful commentary. I like this statement very much:

"Each instance you enter the image with your senses, you can find yourself in a different place; mental, emotional, spiritual or other, engaging in a process of division, further fragementation and eventually, moving back toward wholeness."

Well said. For me, making art is as you describe, whether I'm painting or doing digital work. One must be mindful of both the parts and the whole. Sometimes it's a difficult balance!

Just like life, I guess. The sum of each of our lives is made of how we live all those tiny moments.... :)

  13. ANNA - I'm glad you enjoyed Heather's expose. I know I did! It's great to realize how subjective our responses are, both to art and to life in general.

Have a wonderful weekend with Matthew! I wish you fair skies...

  15. CARRIE - Thank you!

ANNE - I hadn't thought of that! Another good slant on this! Wish I had the wisdom of a Buddha and could radiate light in all these colors! :)

  16. MAX - "and if we look closer to its centre we do perceive something like women's "recondite spot"

YES, MAX, I hadn't intended it, but clearly, it's there! You have phrased it quite eloquently! With your usual eloquence. :)

As for the Tarot, I find such things interesting for discussion but have not investigated such systems in any detail. So I don't know whether I could become a believer.

Generally, I rather shy away from anything that might lead to the occult. I'm a chicken! And I want to err on the side of staying firmly planted in this physical world, at least until my time has come to leave this physical form....

    Thank you *bowing*!

"As for the Tarot, I find such things interesting for discussion but have not investigated such systems in any detail. So I don't know whether I could become a believer."

I hear you! I confess that I read about it a lot, and it is quite interesting. And I have some friends who work with it, and I can tell you that (although I am not hooked on it) it works...specially if the person reading the Tarot is good (because there are some wackos out there who pretend to read it).

"Generally, I rather shy away from anything that might lead to the occult. I'm a chicken! And I want to err on the side of staying firmly planted in this physical world, at least until my time has come to leave this physical form..."

lol you're not a chicken...it is just not your thing, perhaps. I know where you are coming from!

  18. MAX - I find such things interesting, too. There is much to the universe beyond our sight and knowledge. I'm very much interested in the nature of the cosmos and all things metaphysical. But I approach the occult with caution and from a distance.

Did you ever read "The Road Less Traveled" by M. Scott Peck, MD? His conclusion as an educated, mainstream, scientific person is that Evil (with a capital "E") is very real. Which of course, we know from the world around us. But he believes in possessions and demonic forces, etc. I'm not interested in calling up such things, either by intention or peripherally! :)

  19. Lynda,

"But I approach the occult with caution and from a distance."

LOL and you should. It is a very appealing world, but also an extremely dangerous one too!

I haven't read his book, but I will look for it. I love it when scientists analyse the occult (although I do not confer to science the mighty power that most people does. When science cannot explain something it is too quick to state that it is not true).
I agree with Dr. Peck...Evil is very real. There are possessions and evil forces and they are not a beautiful thing to witness *nodding*.
