Sea Foam and Stones

Sand Furrows with Stones

Wet Rocks at Water's Edge

Washed Up

At Rest Within the Streaming Tide

Foam

Sea winds whipping

water to foam,
refresh my soul.

Bright pebbles, steadfast
through
time's turbulence,
teach patience.

Rugged beach, wild with
brine, bird and breeze,
renews me.

  1. Who'd have thought simple rocks and water could be so lovely. Wonderful!

  2. Beautiful Linda. Lovely photos which remind me of time gone by! Thank you for the lovely memories your photos instill.

  3. Reminds me of what I'm currently painting. These stones are so delicate compared to my big clunkers I have on my site. The water on them certainly enhances the light and the colours. Such little things can make a day more enjoyable.

  4. Hey Lynda nice new photo of you! These are nice photos of the stones. You know it always amazed me how water always smoothen them. Thanks for sharing, btw, nice refreshing poem. Anna :)

  5. It always amazes me how much glorious color there is in nature. (And how many people don't even notice--they think the beach is only yellow sand!) Thanks for bringing that home again--and enjoyed the poem, goes with well!

  6. tangled stitch - I'm glad my photos bring back memories for you. All we have is the present moment and whatever wonderful memories we can garner. The future never comes if we don't live the present, right?

  7. MARGARET - We have a lot in common, Margaret! Rocks and chairs...lol. Better than rocking chairs! ;)

I loved your post on chairs. I'm still thinking about it....

  9. ANNA - Thanks for reading my little poem. I hope it works with the photos.

The colors of wet rocks are always amazing--I have more to post, soon. And they do get smoothed and polished by the water, over eons. Amazing earth processes...that we can only marvel over. xxx

  10. CONDA - That's why I'll be doing a post regarding how we view things casually from afar, or how we can REALLY look at them, and find awe!

I was going to tell you to enjoy the spring weather, but I think you're in the current storm zone. :(

  11. Renews me too :o)

One of my first pictures with my new camera was of the ground in my driveway, after coming home that day. The driveway is the grayish type stone, small, mucky and wet looking. My husband though it looked like "bluck"...messy driveway stone but on my camera it just looked fresh to me. I love rocks and water...it does refresh, even with a bit of mucky mud involved :o)

  12. HEATHER - I was just thinking of you today and wondering how you like your new camera. Do you love it? I love mine.

I know what you mean about the rocks. I've always loved rocks: they give me a feeling of strength.

My husband laughs at me for half the things I photograph, but when he sees the finished shots, he can often see what I saw it them....

    Happy spring bussin', Heather!

  16. Some incredibly beautiful photography, Lynda! I'd love you to join Sepia Scenes! And yes you can miss weeks - post when you can. I guess it's obvious I live in Queens. :)

  17. Oh dear Lynda, I just FLIPPED over these photos. They are (for me) your best ever!!! I am an avid water and rock photographer. As I may have told you once I stopped putting my best photos on my site as people were stealing them. But we are probably going to put my water ones in a book. And possibly my ice crystal ones from the same creek. I become completely lost in photographing water and rocks or ice patterns. I go hours and forget where I am, I become so lost in the play of light, ripples, water and rocks. It's a whole WORLD of magic for me.

I come here and I often feel like I have known you for a very long time. Your words and pictures/art move me to tears. As if we were seeing the world through the same eyes or hearts. I think it's the WAY you see/experience the world that I relate to so strongly. You are truly beautiful both inside and out so you see all the beauty of the world in something as simple as a rock. That is some amazing human being. Hugs and love, Robin. Thank you Lynda.

PS I just watched your video of water running out of a tidal pool. Such a lovely sound, live-giving. And I LOVED what you wrote with that video, your awareness of Nature's tenacity and "shinning through" even in the face of human desecration. And your awareness of the agricultural runoff. Oh Lynda, I am hugging you right now. Just hugging you for knowing, for seeing and for loving the beauty around you. Love, Robin

  18. MARY - You are almost my neighbor! How nice to meet you. We're in Suffolk. Have you always lived in Queens? Actually, I grew up in PA--lived there until I was 22.

Egad, my husband would never stop our car in the middle of a bridge or before or after it, lol, but I would like it if he did! It's always a challenge to get the shots I want! Gotta be daring....

"Sepia Scenes" is a great idea. I hope to join you as we shift gears into our summer routine, if not before.

Hope we see more of each other in the blogging neighborhood, before then!

  19. ROBIN - We have such a similar "eye" for what compels us, and a similar passion! You don't know how excited I get when I come home with a camera "full of the natural world." I become ecstatic, like a kid with free reign in a candy shop, to work up all the photos. I find beauty in all of it, and each image seems to me, to be beautiful in its own way.

I am so happy that you sense where I'm coming from, and have like feelings.

I too have tons of rock and water photos, and am mesmerized both by the original discovery/experience as well as by each visit to my image files. I embrace it all, feeling very "rich" and happy in my existence.

I guess we're lucky to feel this way. I would like to do a book as well, of photos and short poems or nature tidbits. It's a conflict between painting, photography, writing, etc. So I guess that for now, I'll just be happy going out in nature and bringing back glimpses that to me, evoke the universe and universal, and hoping that they resonate with people on my blog.

It has been such a pleasure to get to know you a little bit, Robin. Your enthusiasm is not only contagious, but also affirmative of the part of the human spirit that I hold dear. And that part is "reverence."

You not only have that, but you call it out in others!

As far as getting lost in it, I can't tell you how many nights I stay up far too late, working on these images that make me feel connected to the universe. I want to embrace it all!

Oh, yea, while we're talking, Robin, did I ask you yet if you know of good video file-format software? I'm dying to work on and publish the little movies I've taken on the beach of late, but need to change them from MOV to MPG (and edit them, of course!)

Robin, you are indeed my kindred spirit and your voice gives me strength!

Love to you, and peace on your journey. xxxxx

  24. Hi SPEEDYCAT - If you mean www.lyndalehmann.com, no, it's not under construction. Since it's such a big site--many pages--it takes a few seconds to load. Hope you enjoy my art, if you do try it again!

Enjoy your weekend. And don't fool around too much with the chickens! lol...

  25. GENNARO - Thanks for looking at them. I'm glad you enjoyed them. ZEN is how nature makes me feel, all the time. The more I look, the more I see. The more I see, the more I am astonished--and at peace with the universe. :)

  28. Gads, how you make me miss Jones Beach & Long Island Sound all at the same time. Looking at those photos, I can SMELL the beach, I can feel the textures of the rocks & shells.
I really need to get back to Long Island someday. It's been almost 25 years...

  29. LANA - Come on over and we'll take a beach walk! 25 years is a long time.

I've been away from PA, where I grew up, for about 35 years!
