We've all seen a number of You Tube videos. Some are mediocre and some are outstanding. In my mind, this one is unforgettable. I'm sure it will leave an indelible imprint on my consciousness.
It is at once a sermon and a promise, an homage and a litany. If you give yourself to it for a few minutes, I think you might agree with me.
The adornment and countenance of these people are haunting and beautiful. Their apparent relatedness to our Earth seems appropos to those whose lives unfold near The Great Rift. This video makes one ponder on the nature of beauty, wisdom, play, and inter-relatedness.
On the YouTube site, one of the comments was that these faces look sad. I agree, however, with another commenter who said these faces are full of awe and reverence. They are OF THE EARTH, and they KNOW it! They FEEL it in every fiber of their being, and express it constantly in their physical accoutrement.
Again, this video brings up the correlation between play, art-making, and BEING. These people have a deep connection to something that we, in what WE consider to be more "civilized" societies, can only grope for......

I wish I could partake in the YouTube video, but considering our "lightning fast" satellite connection (that runs more like 56K dialup,) it'd take at least 20 hours to download the video, IF it didn't error-out before then. I'll take your word for it that it's wonderful, though.

Oh my, what wondrous people and what a fantastic reminder of what is truly human.
Dear Lynda, I bookmarked this about 2 - 3 months ago and probably played it 10 times or more over a 3 - 4 day period. I wept every time I watched it. Not for the people in the video but because I have lived a small fraction of this type of life and I understand it's innocence and complete connection to and absorption into Nature...and I miss it deeply.
Everything I now do in my life is geared toward living wild again...one day. I know in my deepest heart of hearts that I must once more live like this. I survive in "civilization" (if you can call it civilization) and even at times thrive as I tend to seek out Life no matter where I am, BUT like I say in my book:"Once the female animal remembers who she is, she won’t willingly forget. She’ll fight ruthlessly to protect her acute animal intelligence."
Or (also from my book) "When we remember our own wildness, we value ALL wildness."
To watch this video is to remember, to feel, and to know who I am.
I am so glad you posted it. I needed it especially today.

Hi Lynda, something I can watch over and over again. Thanks for sharing this amazing video. I always was impressed by their painted faces in the National Geographic magazine.
Aside, have you ever heard about the hand animation. This is something I discovered while ago. There are very amazing videos around on the you tube. I should share some one day.
