Quiet Witness on a Snowy Day

The beauty I see around me leaves me speechless. Sometimes I just like to pay homage, bear quiet witness, and fill my cup with beauty.

Today we took a two-hour walk in the snowy woods, surrounded by peace, scenic snowy scenes, and a tangle of living things groping their way to the promise of new growth. I'll publish more of my photos from our trek, if I find that they have enough exposure. I was shooting with a small aperture for depth of field, but the ice and snow made it difficult to manage my tripod. And those hand-held shots are tricky, especially when you have to watch your footing!

I wish you a warm and cozy night. Before I close, I just want to thank my dear friend Anna at My Only Photo for posting my image from my last post, on her page. Anna is a terrific photographer, mommy, and friend. Thanks, Anna!

  3. I love this shot. I can almost smell the forest here. It reminds me of spring because it looks as though the snow is melting. Spring is my favourite time of year. The air is rich with different fragrances of nature and so fresh and invigorating.

  5. DAVINA - I'm glad you can smell the forest here, because I can smell it when I look at this photo, too. I remember the dripping of the melting snow crust on the branch, the shiny orange of the rough bark, and the feel of snow under my feet, crunching with the tread of my boots...and the air sweet with dampness and the pungent odor of wet wood.

Thanks for sharing with me. I hope spring arrives for you very soon. I like it too, except that it brings out my allergies!

  6. BOB - I always find a way to fill my cup with beauty, even on a bad day. I am very fortunate, I know, to have such joy from nature. Just like you fill your cup with wonder and joy when you look at the heavens....

Hope all is well, my friend.

  9. Kia ora Lynda,
This reminds me of being up high on a moutain ridge, just getting into the snow, relishing the climb, the fragrance of the wet wood, the drips of melting snow, and the awesome swelling in my heart of what lies above. Thank you for this virtual climb. Kia kaha!

  13. Hi Lynda,

First of all: I love your header! It is sophisticated.

Second of all: I surely understand how one can admire the simple things in nature (nature and the way it reacts to existence is a great lesson of life, isn't it?), for it soothes the soul (as if God were whispering to us in that exact moment).

I wish you love and peace, my dear friend :D!

    Cheers

  14. Lynda:

I love the shot. It looks like at least four distinct level of color. Great artistic presentation.

Hey, I really like the new header. It's really an attention getter against the black background. At least on my iMac, it's black.

    Happy trails.

  15. MAX - All of nature is to me, REVELATION, though I am not very religious in a TRADITIONAL sense. Yet I feel the presence of the Creator all around me. In the stones and trees, moss, water, and lichen. My inner life is enriched by experiences of great beauty....And I hold the act of SEEING in great esteem.

My dear friend, I wish you peace and beauty and all other good things.

On a lighter note, I'm glad you like my header. It was time for a change and I enjoyed making it.

Love to you, my friend. :)

  16. SWUBIRD - It's GREAT to have you back. I guess you're feeling 100%?

My husband and I have both just gotten over a very bad cold that lasted more than 2 weeks for both of us! Talk about lost joi de vie AND lost productivity.... :(

We'll all feel better when this somewhat dreadful winter has lifted its hold on us....

I'm glad you like my header. Yes, the color is black on my PC, as well. One never knows how different our screens may look, though.

Stay well, Swubird! Glad to see ya!

  17. Dearest Lynda, This is pure and total art. It's almost like the lichen is imitating the snow in it's shape and edge pattern. Astounding how nature repeats itself it infinite shape and form.
I am so loving being here tonight. God, I wish I was out there with you. I know my time will come, but if I'm honest with you I write with tears in my eyes. I miss you and the wild world we both love so dearly. It's why Robb in NZ loves you are well, because of your wild soul, you are our wild sister. I wish I was there to hug you for the beauty you see and ARE. Those who love the infinite stillness and detail of Nature are always kindred. Much love, Robin Thank you for making my day more real and peaceful.

  18. ROBIN - I haven't read your other comment yet but I want you to know that I have thought of you a lot and missed you, also a lot. We definitely ARE kindred spirits. I have to leave for the day, but I will try to write more, later. Yes, you are my wild sister and I love your Being and your presence in my life. You have enriched me and given me courage, with the truth of your soul, your passion, and your openness. I embrace you as I embrace the wild things around me that we both so love. And Robb too: he is a kindred spirit.

  19. Dear Lynda, Never worry when you get back to me. You are soooooo with me, no matter what. Always. I read your comment on Robb's site and came back here to just tell you that I cried. I mean really cried. I needed to hear all that you wrote. I hope you don't mind but I printed out your comment and have it on my desk. It speaks of all that is ME, all that I hold dear and all that is REAL, TRUE and GOOD. You are really something else, Lynda, something so so special. Thank you for taking the time to share that on his site. I needed it. You are well and truly one of the REALLY REALLY Wild Ones left. You do wonders for those like Robb and Me. SO much love, Robin

  20. Robin, I didn't get out the door yet--too many issues going on with family, another story--but I MUST print your comments one day, as well. You are so affirming of the best there is in all of us, and I am immensely grateful to have met you. I will carry you in my heart and mind today (and forever), as I traverse hills and trails and beaches of wonder and beauty....

    BIG HUGS!!!!
PS - I don't remember exactly what I wrote on Robb's site, but I'm going to have to go back to read it...
    Blessings on you.
