Here are a few photos of one of our favorite places in Acadia.  Sand Beach is easily accessible from the Park Loop Road and is one of the most serene and scenic of the spots we visited.  Looking at the tranquil surface of the azure water, one could hardly believe that the flow in this cove was attached to the ocean!  I'm sure it kicks up at times, but on a calm day the tranquility of the place is spellbinding.  I've been there only in September but I'm sure that in the summer months it's a great place to swim, kayak, or just take the kids for a day on the beach.

Add to the sensuous curve of the beach the soft white sand, the influx of turquoise sea, and the majesty of the surrounding cliffs crowned by mixed boreal and hardwood forest, you've got the ingredients for magic.  I can envision spending many days there, watching the infinite movement of the water and its slightly more chaotic, hissing and foaming entry into the clusters of huge boulders at the edge of the beach, while the enchantment grows.

I apologize for the short post, but better short than not at all.  I hope you enjoyed the photos and that you get to visit Acadia one day, if you haven't already.

  1. Hi Lynda :D!

I love that big eye starring into our soul, in your header. Once we load your blog, there it is that green eye greeting us ;). The surrounding blue reminds me of the Portuguese cross: very beautiful.

Darling, the photos are beautiful. Acadia seems like a paradise and it is amazing the several tones of blue that sea has.

I hope all is well with you, my dear friend :D.

  2. Max - Hello! I'm fine, thanks. I'm glad you like my header. As you can see, I go for bright, intense color... I like that saturated blue, too!

My dear Max, I hope all is well with you. We are having sweet, balmy, golden weather and it's so good for the soul.

I'll be over to see what you're up to!

Did you see our new "baby" on FB?

  3. Lynda,

    "I'm fine, thanks."

So glad to hear it :D.

"My dear Max, I hope all is well with you. We are having sweet, balmy, golden weather and it's so good for the soul."

All is super, thank you :D. We are having a rainy autumn yet warm, which is soothing.

"Did you see our new "baby" on FB?"

What new "baby"? No, I haven't seen it (but then again, I use Google+ more) but I will try looking for it now...

  4. Beautiful photos, Lynda. It's been years since I've been to Acadia. My father-in-law owned a home in nearby Southwest Harbor and we used to visit every summer. My daughter was in elementary school at the time, and Sand Beach was one of her favorite places to go. The whole Maine coast is so gorgeous.

  5. nothing profound - We stayed in a campground in Southwest Harbor! (It's a small world...) It was our first time in Acadia, although we've been going to Maine for years. How nice that you and your daughter got to enjoy it in her youth.

Yes, Sand Beach is mesmerizing and beautiful! I hope you get to enjoy it again, some time. Maybe with grandchildren in tow?

    Thank you for visiting, np!

  7. Lovely, as always, Lynda. Made me wish I was there. And so much beautiful blue, my (current) favorite color!

  8. Conda - Blue is so soothing. My favorite, too. When I was a child I loved bright, cherry red. Seems to me that most children love red, perhaps because it's stimulating. As adults, we need to find peace and solace! We didn't know how good we had it (in some ways) as children!

  9. Particularly enjoyed these photos since we are facing snow later today. Lynda, your passion shows in every photo.

  10. Kathy - Snow? I can't remember how far north you are, but it's been balmy here all week, nothing like that you would expect from mid November. We'll probably get hit by a big storm next week, now that our guard is down.

Thanks for stopping by, Kathy. It's good to see you.

  12. skdd - Come on over and walk with me anytime! Lots of beaches here.... Then we'll have a picnic. You can prep the main dish and I'll bring bread and wine. *wink* (Or maybe we should walk AFTER the meal.)

  13. As always, wonderful photographs capturing the color and mood of the day, and on this day, the mood is bright and peaceful.

I cannot help but agree with you that this bay is masquerading as a calm lake beach... and with you mentioning kayaking, it sparked my memory of my wife's/my recent (and first) kayak journey a few months ago, along the shore and into estuaries along Lake Tahoe (pictures on my Flickr account)... delightfully similar serenity. Not something I expect in Maine (I usually enision 25 foot winter storm waves crashing against light-houses :-)

Dang, another reason to visit the east coast someday! :-) What a wonderful place, and inviting photos... we'll meet you there!

    ttfn,
    Eduard
